Okay, I admit, I love the Fly Porsche 917K models. In my mind, they somehow captured the essence of the 1:1 car and made it even better. The long sides, the gentle Coke bottle curve in the middle, and the square tail make this a model that will only appreciate in value. But before you think my cars are shelf queens, take a look at those David Piper Porsche 917Ks on the track! Earlier in my buildup you saw some modified Gulf Porsches 917Ks. As of 2005, those are now fetching $100 a piece! Yikes? Better turn down the voltage to help preserve them for the future, eh.
Typical modifications on the cars include installing a solid 3/32" piano wire front axle. Trimming of the pinion gear, shimming the rear axles to prevent slop and improve performance. Usually, the Fly tires are quite good on my wood track. Softness counts. I was a little disappointed at the hard rubber tires on the the Fly Ferrari GTB365 cars though. On wood, smoothness of the drive train is easily noticeable!
